Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Pizza Leader Steps Down After Pivot Into Chicken.

A head of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the UK might have hit maximum pizza demand while broadening the franchise into fried chicken has been replaced after conflicts with its governing body.

Executive Shake-Up

The former CEO is departing after only 24 months in charge, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while Domino's searches for a permanent CEO.

The outgoing executive, who was with Domino's for a substantial period, had aimed to pivot the UK's largest pizza delivery company towards fried chicken, stating recently there was not “huge potential” left in the British pizza industry. He said poultry was the fastest-growing food category in the globe.

Governance Tensions

It is understood that there was friction between Rennie and the board over his approach and management style, although the company's release said he was stepping down “as a joint decision”.

New Product Launch

In September, the chain introduced its chicken-focused brand – which the former chief called a “significant new phase” for the organization – and is testing it in 210 outlets in the North West region and the province.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores next year as intended, it views fried chicken as a supplement for its primary pizza operations.

Board Statement

Bull, the company chairman, stated: “Directors think that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and profitability in our primary operations. We are prioritizing selecting the ideal CEO to oversee the careful implementation of that growth strategy.”

Market Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has 13 million customers in the UK and Ireland, said sales dipped by 1.5 percent in the Q3. In August, it alerted that the food delivery sector had “intensified” as it blamed economic uncertainty in the run-up to the budget and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a significant fall in interim earnings.

Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut revealed the shutting of multiple locations a last month, after the firm behind its UK venues entered insolvency.

Health Initiatives

Trying to keep up with market shifts towards better nutrition, the company has rolled out reduced-calorie products, such as its thin-crust line of pizzas below 400 calories as well as plant-based and wheat-free pizzas. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171 kcal, while a small has 909 calories.

Interim Leadership

Frampton has been with the company since 2021, and previously worked for the gaming group a well-known operator. It is believed that she is not seeking to take on the top job long-term.

She said: “We have a multiple active development and performance initiatives that we will be focused on implementing at a rapid rate.”

She added these included ongoing development on the organization's logistics network and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

Domino's is also lacking a permanent CFO until the spring, when Andrea starts from the beverage producer a well-known firm. For now, Snow is acting financial officer.
