Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
