The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl containing several personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate personas, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, though other scenes show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
