The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
